Mental Health


Aware is a national voluntary organisation providing support through depression. Services include support groups nationwide, a loCall Helpline open 365 days a year (both services available to individuals with depression and also family members and friends) and an email support service.

MyMind is a community based mental health organization offering accessible and affordable mental health services. MyMind offers services to people with mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, addiction, work-related stress and suicidal thoughts. MyMind offers a non-medical early intervention approach.
Main activities include:

  • One to one client sessions
  • Group and family sessions
  • One- or two-day Mental Health Awareness trainings open to everyone
  • Professional training workshops for industry practitioners

MyMind is open 7 days a week, currently based at 1 Chelmsford Road, Ranelagh, Dublin 6 and 86 Amiens Street, Dublin 1.

GROW is a Mental Health Organisation which helps people who have suffered, or are suffering, from mental health problems. Members are helped to recover from all form of breakdown, or indeed, to prevent such happening. GROW has been in Ireland since 1969 and has a national network of more than 130 groups throughout the country. Its principal strength is the support members give each other from their own experience in matters to do with mental health.

Shine (formerly Schizophrenia Ireland) is the national organisation dedicated to upholding the rights and addressing the needs of all those affected by enduring mental illness including, but not exclusively, schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder and bi-polar disorder. Headstrong is an initiative working with communities in Ireland to ensure that young people aged twelve to twenty five are better supported to achieve mental health and wellbeing. Headstrong does not provide direct services to young people, rather it works with those who do, acting as an expert partner to the Health Services Executive and other people and services concerned with providing mental health and well-being supports to young people in Ireland.

Suicide


Samaritans provides 24-hour non judgmental emotional support to anyone experiencing distress, despair or suicidal thoughts. Established in Ireland in 1962, there are now twenty Samaritans branches across the island of Ireland.

Console is an organisation that helps people who are bereaved by suicide. They provide national helpline service 1800 201890, individual and family bereavement counselling and therapy and support groups.

Living Links is an organisation that provides assertive outreach support on a one to one basis to those bereave by suicide. The Living Links listening/support service is free of charge and available to any person in the community including emergency personnel, Gardai and clergy etc., who have in any way been affected by suicide.

Pieta House, the Centre for the Prevention of Self-Harm or Suicide offers a specialised treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harming behaviours. In particular, this centre targets people who have already attempted to take their lives. This service is free of charge, but donations are welcome. The specialized treatment programme offers a comprehensive service aimed at individuals and their families who are affected by multiple suicidal attempts, suicidal ideation or continuous self-harming behaviours.

Debt


MABS is a national, free, confidential and independent service for people in debt or in danger of getting into debt. MABS provide a helpline service 1890 283 438 available Mon –Fri 9am-8pm and an email support service (helpline@mabs.ie).

Teen Issues


Childline is a part of the ISPCC (The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children). Childline has two parts. There is a telephone service and there is an online and mobile phone texting service.

The telephone service is available 24 hours a day on 1800 66 66 66 .

The online service can be accessed by logging on to www.childline.ie . The mobile phone texting service is open only for certain parts of the country and for young people who are hard-of-hearing or deaf. It can be accessed by texting the word "Deaf" to 50101 between 6pm and 10pm.


Teen-Line Ireland is a free-phone service for young people available Wednesdays 3pm - 6pm, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 9pm - 12 midnight and on Sundays 8pm - 11pm. The Helpline can be contacted on 1800833634.


Sexual Abuse


The Rape Crisis Centre is a national organisation offering a wide range of services to women and men who are affected by rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment or childhood sexual abuse. The services include a national 24-hour helpline, one to one counselling, court accompaniment, outreach services, training, awareness raising and lobbying. The aim is to offer help and support to anyone who has experienced sexual violence of any kind. This may have been recently, some years ago or in childhood.

One in Four offers a voice to and support for women and men who have experienced sexual abuse and/or sexual violence and also to their family and friends. One in Four provide advocacy support, individual psychotherapy, group therapy and online support.

The CARI Foundation aims is to provide a professional, child centred therapy and counselling service to children, families, and groups who have been affected by child sexual abuse.

Drug/HIV Helpline is a free phone, confidential helpline offering support, information, guidance and referral.

The helpline is available on 1800 459 459 everyday from 10am-5pm.


Sexuality


BeLonG To is an organisation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) young people, aged between 14 and 23.

Gay Switchboard is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual community based service that operates a helpline service, married men’s group and parents support group.

The Gay Switchboard helpline is available on 01 8721055 from Mon-Thursday 7:30pm- 9:30pm.


Alcohol


Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help themselves and others to recover from alcoholism. Alcoholics Anonymous provide support group around the country.

Al-Anon offers understanding and support for families and friends of problem drinkers in a group setting.

Drugs


Narcotics Anonymous is a support organisations for people addicted to drugs. They provide peer group support on a national basis.

Pregnancy


Positive Options is a free text service available 24 hours a day from the Crisis Pregnancy Agency. The positive options text service provides a list of crisis pregnancy service available nationwide.

Physical Abuse


Women's Aid provides support and information to women and their children who are being physically, emotionally and sexually abused in their own homes.

AMEN is a voluntary group which provides a confidential helpline, information and a support service for male victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Parentline is an organisation that supports parents and guardians in their role as parents.

One Family is a national organisation for one-parent families in Ireland. One Family offers a wide range of services to one-parent families, to those experiencing a crisis pregnancy and to those working with one-parent families.
